a tiny piece of Flores [3/3]

Mei 27-29, 2015.

Suka-suka kau lah.

Setelah Pulau Moyo, selebihnya hanya berlayar menuju Lombok.

Salam,

May 27-29, 2015. Day 7 to 9.

When I opened my eyes, the sun shined on the horizon which means the sailing trip had to go on. Pink Beach (-8.601157, 119.520010) was for relaxing and snorkeling. The sand at this beach is pink. People say it’s because the fraction of corals that make it pink. I thought we spent about an hour at the beach and we were going to a spot called Manta Point. In this area, if you are lucky, I emphasize a word, LUCKY,  you could see a flock of manta rays, yet that time wasn’t the lucky time for us. We didn’t even see one manta ray passing by. To cheer up our sadness, captain of the ship turned the ship to Gosong Island. This island consists of sands and is only available during the low tide. According to the definition, this Gosong Island can’t be defined as an island :D. I did enjoy the Gosong Island, however.

To see Komodo National Park with a vast view, Gili Lawa (-8.469852, 119.558138) was next. Reaching the top of the hill on Gili Lawa was about 15-25 minutes depending on the stamina you have. During the dry season, the dominated color will be brown and dusty. My recommendation is going after the rain season around April or May. You will have an astonishing view with the combination of green from the surrounding islands and blue from the ocean and sky. There was no word to depict such marvelously view. After that, the night of the second day was closed by sailing to Satonda and Moyo Island. Hoped that there were no pirate ships such The Black Pearl or even The Flying Dutchman. Have a good night, folks!!

Even though we weren’t that lucky to spot Komodo when we’re trekking the islands and to swim with Manta Ray, one thing that made us happy as we were only 13 people on the ship. I read a review about Kencana Adventure after I did the trip, they got more than 20 people into the ship. For a 4 days and 3 nights trip, sailing and living on board, the price isn’t that expensive, they can take many people and can be over the limit. So we didn’t need to share little space for more people that time. Speaking of food, I would generally say their food was slightly above average. However, I would suggest you to not listen to my review about the food they served during the trip. This isn’t because I did say slightly above average but it’s more to my belly and tongue which couldn’t differentiate a good food and edible food. HAHAHAHAHA.

On the day three of the sailing trip, we reached Satonda Island (-8.117032, 117.745633). A small island located to the north-west of Tambora Mountain on Sumbawa Island. Satonda Island is an interesting island because has a saltwater lake in the middle of the island. We anchored the ship 25 meters from the shore and went to the salt water lake. We could do snorkeling in the lake but I think don’t take too much effort to snorkeling there. There was nothing to see. LOL. It’s better to snorkeling on the seashore. For me, after I realized that there was nothing to see in the lake, I set my hammock up and chilled. After Satonda, we moved to Moyo Island (-8.222919, 117.573596). Moyo Island has a luxurious resort and I heard few big name such Lady Diana and Mick Jagger had visited this island. So this island would be our next stop, could you imagine how fun would it be? Yes, it would be an amazing experience if we went to the resort. BUT, our target on Moyo Island wasn’t that resort yet a waterfall located opposite direction from that resort. I am tremendously sure that the price I paid for the sailing trip would not be enough to stay even for a night at the resort.

First and second day of the sailing trip, we swam in the ocean without taking fresh water shower after because we didn’t have enough fresh water to shower. I did expect of this situation comparing the price I paid. So, reaching the waterfall was another happiness I got after seeing from the top of Gili Lawa. So fresh and felt like I was born, again. Hyperbolic, sorry. Back to the ship, we waited for a smaller boat which was carried with the main ship. There was a man from the UK, from our group, which I didn’t understand he jumped back to the sea and swam to the main ship after taking shower. Up to you, mate.

Moyo Island done, next thing to do was nothing. We just sailed to Lombok. It could be concluded that the trip was over after Moyo Island. During the way to Lombok, we played cards, had a conversation, and slept. In the morning of the final day for the sailing trip and entire trip for me, the British guy jumped into the sea, whatever. Around 8 am, the ship fully anchored to the harbor and we had been being waited by a car from Kencana Adventure to go to either Mataram or Senggigi area. I was sitting in the car till Mandalika (bus station) and my cousin, who lives in Lombok, picked me up there. We went around to find food and 3 hours later he dropped me at the airport. It’s my time to fly back to Jakarta, my 9 days to explore a piece of Flores was amazing. Thank you, Flores, see you till next time.
